Work in progress:
I am interested in exploring the intermingled relationships between illness, identity, health care and industry. I recognize the agency of these objects and am challenged to decipher them as well as instrumentalize them to consider the paradox that is contemporary health care in the western world. What do these objects indicate regarding our societal health and behaviours? How is the western healthcare industry implicated in the Anthropocene?
How do the design and aesthetic of these objects impact a user’s identity as well as indicate information about our healthcare system? How are these objects situated in our culture in both private and public spaces? Do these objects indicate social location, race and class?
Through my research and material exploration, I will create a new body of work that explores the agency of objects/ material, particularly related to western health care. This work will explore the performativity of health care objects (medical care and industry) and critically consider how we are implicated in this relationship.
